The UK Rock Chart usually refers to the Top 40 Rock Singles and the Top 40 Rock Albums Chart compiled by the Official Charts Company from physical record sales in British retail outlets with larger than average genrespecific sales.[citation needed]
The chart is not published on the official OCC website and appears only on Radio 1's website, since October 2001 [1][2], and in ChartsPlus newsletter.
Unlike the US counterpart, Hot Modern Rock Tracks, which is compiled solely on the airplay of 80 modern rock stations, the UK equivalent is based on physical sales and therefore does not follow the rigid formatting of radio stations. However, the criterion for inclusion and exclusion is unclear.
