Fictional character biography

Early life

Suzy Sherman is raised by her father Toby Sherman, and her mother. In her teen years, Suzy is an aspiring model in Southern California. Attempting to make it as the industry-standard slim, "elfin beauty," she is shocked to find that, in a few days' time, she has grown inches taller, rapidly acquired the muscle mass and physique of the average female bodybuilder, and even more shockingly discovers via a violent encounter that this physical transformation comes with accompanying superpowers.

It was after a failed modeling audition, that Suzy was suddenly attacked by a Sentinel, a left-over minion from Onslaught's assault on humanity[2]. The Sentinel implies that Suzy is actually a mutant Kree warrior, though her exact origins are still unclear today. Reporters who see the fight between Suzy and the Sentinel run to interview her. During the interview she keeps using the term "Ultra," leading the press to dub her "Ultra Girl". Suzy begins to receive endorsements and deduces that being Ultra Girl is her ticket to stardom, so she and her friends design a costume from sports apparel she has received from past modeling jobs.[2]

One of Suzy's friends, Amber, tries to convince her to abandon the superhero idea, but Ultra Girl is set on it, even fighting against the villain, Effex, alongside the New Warriors[3]. Together the Warriors and Ultra Girl defeat Effex[4].

After a mission with the Warriors, Ultra Girl learns that Amber is in fact "Ambra", a Kree agent sent to Earth to observe her; that her real name is Tsu-Zana; and several other locals in addition to Ambra are secretly Kree who expect her to serve as a Kree messiah. Ambra also informs Suzy that many of her friends (even her childhood doctor) are Kree. It is said in Kree writings that Tsu-Zana is to be the Ultimate Unifier, and will eventually restore glory to the Kree Empire. They ask Suzy to abandon her superhero career, so as not to draw attention to the Kree[4] but she refuses.

Some time later, Ultra Girl and Slapstick join the New Warriors in stopping a Badoon invasion. Afterward both are made members of the Warriors[5].

Civil War

The honor of working with the New Warriors now haunts Ultra Girl, as the Warriors are blamed for an explosion in Stamford which causes the death of hundreds of people, including children. Ultra Girl is one of the New Warriors whose civilian identities are publicly outed on an Anti-New Warriors website. Teaming with the remaining Warriors and She-Hulk, they shut down the website and discover it is run by former Warrior, Hindsight[6]

Ultra-Girl is a member of Captain America's Secret Avengers in the Civil War among superheroes[1]. She is seen among the heroes rescuing Captain America during Tony Stark and Steve Rogers' private meeting attempting to settle their differences[7]. After the end of the war, she decides to comply with the Superhuman Registration Act.[8]

The Initiative

Ultra Girl is now part of the Initiative. Sherman is seen on the bus of registered trainees headed for Stamford[9]. [10] Ultra Girl is injured while fighting the forces of HYDRA[11]. She later accompanies Rage, Hardball, Cloud 9, Komodo, Triathlon, Thor Girl, and Slapstick to fight the Hulk[12]. It has also been revealed that she and Justice have started a relationship [13].
After the appearance of the new New Warriors, Ultra Girl was appointed as director of the Junior Guardsmen, a youth branch of the Initiative, akin to the JROTC program.

When the other former New Warriors decide to quit the Initiative, Ultra Girl instead returns to Camp Hammond to complete her training. With her Initiative training complete, she and Thor Girl are assigned to Georgia, with Ultra Girl wearing a new costume: Carol Danvers' original Ms. Marvel outfit, given to Suzy by Carol as a graduation present.[14]

Secret Invasion

During the events of Secret Invasion, the Skrull Dum Dum Dugan calls all the sleeper agents in the Initiative, causing Ultra Girl and Thor Girl to fight each other out of fear. When the Skrull Kill Krew arrives to the scene, 3-D Man confirms that Thor Girl is a Skrull. The Skrull Thor Girl is killed with her own hammer.[15] The real Thor Girl is later seen with all the people that had been replaced by the Skrulls.[16]

Dark Reign

Ultra Girl is ordered to hand over her Ms. Marvel costume, as Norman Osborn has secured the rights to the name and likeness, and is planning to create a new Ms. Marvel.[17] When the deranged Thor clone Ragnarok attacks the Initiative, Justice and Counter Force (now calling themselves "New Warriors") arrive to stop them, and Ultra Girl, wearing her old costume, saves Justice from one of Ragnarok's deadly attacks.[18] When Justice unearths the original MVP's body, wanting to give it a proper burial, Ultra Girl joins him and his team in leaving the Initiative.[19]

Powers and abilities

Ultra Girl is superhumanly strong, capable of lifting multiple tons, and is highly resistant to physical injury. She is also superhumanly fast, and can move at velocities approaching the speed of sound, and she heals at an accelerated rate. Ultra Girl can also fly at great speeds. Ultra Girl can alter her vision to see in other wavelengths of energy (besides visible light), such as infrared and ultraviolet. Her powers have vaguely activated in relation to what's been required for the situation, but it is unknown if this is a case of reactive evolution, or simply a process of discovery.
