'Um Mitternacht'

‘Um Mitternacht’, a poem written in 1827 by E. Mörike. In two eight-line stanzas of subtly varying rhythm, the poet writes of the serenity of the night, disturbed only by the streams' babbling recollection of the day. The poem, which begins ‘Gelassen stieg die Nacht ans Land’, has been set to music by Hugo Wolf.
