Underlying Security

Options: security that must be delivered if a Put Option or Call Option contract is exercised. Stock Index Options and Stock Index Futures, however, are settled in cash, since it is not possible to deliver an index of stocks.

Securities: common stock that underlies certain types of securities issued by corporations. This stock must be delivered if a Subscription Warrant or Subscription Right is exercised, if a Convertible bond or Preferred Stock is converted into common shares, or if an Incentive Stock Option is exercised.
