The United Learning Trust (ULT) is a large educational charity in England, which operates a number of academies spread across the country.[1] In 2007–08 it had a gross income of £155,166,000, making it one of the 50 largest UK charitable organizations.[2] Its central office is at Titchmarsh in Northamptonshire.
ULT was founded in 2002 with the object of "the provision of education through the operation of academies on behalf of the Department for Children, Schools and Families", and is a subsidiary of the educational charity United Church Schools Trust (UCST) which already operated a number of independent fee-paying schools.[3]
The first ULT academy opened in Manchester in 2003.[4] ULT now runs 15 academies and has plans for a further two, in Kettering and Shoreham.[5]
It operates its academies on a non-denominational basis, but follows the Christian, specifically Church of England, ethos of its parent organization.[6]
