The largest music publisher in the world, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) controls the rights to more than one million songs, including Girl From Ipanema, Shake Your Groove Thing, and Strangers In the Night, as well as the Hayes/Johnson ode to spending the holidays alone. UMPG also administers some 60,000 songs owned by Rondor Music, a catalog of hits from such legends as the Beach Boys, Isaac Hayes, and Otis Redding. The company collects royalties for mechanical reproduction and licenses its songs for use in movies and television. UMPG is the publishing arm of music industry giant Universal Music Group (UMG).
