The Universities Research Association, Inc. (URA) is a consortium of leading research oriented universities primarily in the United States, with members also in Canada, Japan, and Italy.

History and purpose

The URA was founded in 1965 under the directive of the U. S. Presidential Advisory Committee and the National Academy of Sciences. Its charter is to manage and operate research facilities in the national interest. [1]

The URA is the primary contractor for Fermilab, participates in the Pierre Auger Observatory project, and other projects. Its primary funding source is the United States Department of Energy.
