University of Sussex was founded in 1961 as part of the UK's "new wave" of universities. (Such institutions as Cambridge, Oxford, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh date back centuries rather than decades.) The university, which has an annual enrollment more than 10,000 students, is divided into more than a dozen schools, including schools of global studies, informatics, and media, film, and music, as well as a Doctoral School. Along with University of Brighton, the university also operates the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. University of Sussex has gained a reputation for both teaching and research, and it has been ranked not only among the top universities in the UK, but Europe and the world, as well.
