The University of Wisconsin-Madison, the largest campus of the University of Wisconsin System, offers academic programs in more than 100 fields of study. UW-Madison offers about 8,000 courses in areas such as computer science, psychology, English, nursing, journalism, and art. The university, which offers bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees, has an enrollment of more than 41,000 students and has about 2,000 faculty members. Its extracurricular activities include more than 600 clubs and student organizations. Resident undergraduate tuition and fees cost about $17,200. Wisconsin's first governor, Nelson Dewey, established the university in 1848.
