University Park, Pennsylvania is the name of the flagship campus of the
Pennsylvania State University, but is usually shortened to "University
Park." This campus is colloquially referred to, among the general Penn State student population, as "main campus." University
Park, Pennsylvania is also the United States Postal Service
post office serving Penn State, and most campus buildings of the University Park
campus have a University Park, Pennsylvania mailing address.
While most of this campus of the Pennsylvania State University is
located in the borough of State College, Pennsylvania, the campus post
office was designated University Park, Pennsylvania in 1953 when
university president Milton Eisenhower changed the name of the college to the
present The Pennsylvania State University. The zip code of University Park, Pennsylvania is 16802.
During the Fall 2006 semester the student population at University Park was 42,914 students, 36,612 of which were
undergraduate and 6,302 were graduate.
There are slightly more students at University Park than at all the commonwealth campuses, the Pennsylvania College of Technology, the Dickinson School of Law and the Hershey
Medical Center combined. This also makes University Park the 10th largest university in the United States.
