History

Unwired Technology LLC was founded in 1997 as Laral Group LLC. The company headquarters was located in Farmingdale, NY USA.

In addition to a series of infrared wireless headphone systems, early products included a line of Nintendo -branded PC-gaming appliances in addition to the company’s core line of wireless headphones. The company later introduced several models of personal push-to-talk (PTT) walkie-talkie radio sets, including a version endorsed by the popular outdoorsman Bill Dance. Both product lines were eventually phased out.

In 2002, Unwired Technology concentrated its focus on its line of in-vehicle entertainment systems, developing the industry-standard WhiteFire&trad; rear-seat entertainment system. Other uses for the Whitefire multiplexers include multi-channel audio for museum tours and movie theater headphone systems for hearing-impaired patrons.

A full line of wireless infrared consumer headphones currently compliments the Whitefire system. Unwired Technology advertises compatibility with most infrared transmission systems on the market, and also offers a series of radio frequency transmitters and headphones. All of Unwired’s headphones are produced under ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 certification with many units in the OEM division built in compliance with the highest automotive standard, TS/ISO16949.

Awards and recognition

Unwired Technology has been accorded several industry awards for its innovative wireless systems including the CES Innovations Award in 2004 and a CES Best of Show Award in 2000.
