The wheel on the Indian flag with 24 spokes is the Ashoka
Chakra. 12 of the 24 spokes are a representation of the causal
links that are taught by Buddha. These are Avidya (lack of
knowledge), Samskara (constructive volitional activity), Vijnana
(consciousness), Namarupa (name and form), Sadayatana (six senses),
Sparsa (contact), Vedana (pain), Trsna (thirst), Upadana
(grasping), Bhava (coming to be), Jati (being born) and Jaramarana
(old age). The other twelve spokes are represented by the same
list, only backward, represent the Dhamma - the Life.
