Geography Dictionary: urban development corporation

A government-sponsored enterprise with the task of redeveloping derelict land in the inner cities. These corporations are required to match public funding with privately raised capital (leverage) and work within the freedoms also granted to enterprise zones. UDCs were responsible for much of the redevelopment of London's Docklands and for the Cardiff Bay scheme.
