("God is light")

1. The son of Tahath son of Assir, descended from Kohath son of Levi (I Chr 6:24). Probably identical with the Uriel who, with 120 sons of Kohath, helped convey the ark of the covenant from the house of Obed-Edom to Jerusalem (I Chr 15:5, 11).

2. A resident of Gibeah; the father of Michaiah (Maachah in I Kgs 15:2 and II Chr 11:20-21), who was the mother of Abijah, king of Judah (II Chr 13:2).

Uriel ('rēəl).

1, 2 Two descendants of Kohath. 3 Man whose daughter became mother of King Abijah of Judah. The name appears in the pseudepigrapha for an archangel. He is introduced in Milton's Paradise Lost as the angel of the sun.
