Uruguayan punk

Wikipedia: Uruguayan punk

Although Uruguayan punk rock and its culture seem to have appeared during recent times (between the late 80s and early 90s), there were several garage bands from the late 60s and early 70s (such as Mother's Worries, and The Blizzards[1]), precursors of punk music, who had emerged as a response to popular culture aestethics and contributed considerably to the rise of Latin American counterculture. However, in 1973, a military dictatorship came to rule Uruguay, and the boom of the local rock scene ended abruptly. After 1985, with the restoration of democracy, Uruguayan rock was reborn and along with it, there emerged the first Uruguayan punk bands.[who?]
