Biography

US5 were one in a long line of boy bands assembled and managed by impresario Lou Pearlman, who previously guided the careers of the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and O-Town. Pearlman put together the group in conjunction with the reality series Big in America, which premiered on the German television network RTL 2 in the summer of 2005. After assembling an international lineup comprised of German-born Christoph Watrin and Mikel Johnson, American-born Izzy Gallegos and Richie Stringini, and London-born Tariq Jay Khan, the show put the aspiring singers through their paces, shipping them off to an industry boot camp where they honed their talents and respective personas. With Big in America a major television success, it was inevitable that US5's debut single would generate significant media attention, and Maria not only topped the German charts but also entered the Top Ten in Austria and Czechoslovakia. Their 2005 debut album, Here We Go, was also a blockbuster, buoyed by the follow-up singles Just Because of You, Come Back to Me Baby, and Mama. US5 dropped their sophomore effort, In Control, in late 2006, returning to the upper reaches of the German charts via In the Club and One Night with You. US5 is a German-based multinational pop boy band. The band originated in 2005 on the German RTL II television reality show Big in America and debuted in June of the same year on Lou Pearlman’s Transcontinental label. US5 became successful throughout central Europe with their first album Here We Go and with several hit records thereafter.

US5 enjoyed success gaining their first Gold Record in America from their first single called 'Maria' released in 2005. The same song went straight in at number 1 in Germany and became a huge summer hit in several other European countries. On the back of the success of 'Maria' their debut album titled 'Here We Go' released in October 2005, became a huge success gaining them Gold and Platinum records in Germany and Austria. To date, album has sold more then 2,5 millions.

In 2006, US5 did a string of school tours and various promotions up and down the UK. This coincided with the 2nd season of 'Big In America' airing on UK's MTV channel. They released 'Maria' and it entered the UK top 40 at number 38. US5 continued their success in central Europe in 2006 and 2007.

Original member Mikel Johnson left the band for a solo career. He was replaced by Vince Tomas. In 2008, the remaining German member of the band. 'Chris Watrin' also decided to leave the band.

US5 released their single 'The Boys Are Back' from the successful film 'High School Musical 3'. This was followed by a third studio album titled 'Around The World'.

At the end of 2008, the group welcomed another new member 'Cayce Clayton'. With four of the five members now being American, the group decided to relocate to the USA.

The current line-up of US5 is as follows: Richie Stringini, Izzy Gallegos, Cayce Clayton, Jayson Pena all from the USA, and Jay Khan from England.
