Asian Mythology: Vaiṣṇavism

One of the three major forms of Hindu (see Hinduism entries) bhakti (see Bhakti), or devotion to a single god—in this case Viṣṇu (see Viṣṇu). The other forms are Śaaivism (see Śaaivism) and Śaaktism (see Śaaktism). For many Vaisnavas, Viṣṇu is the manifestation of Brahman (see Brahman). He is popularly worshipped through his avatars (see Avatars of Viṣṇu), especially Rāma (see Rāma) and Kṛṣṇa (see Kṛṣṇa).
