Biography

Popular Mexican banda singer Valentin Elizalde, son of Lalo "El Gallo" Elizalde, was born February 1, 1979, in Hitonhueca, Sonora. Though initially deciding to study at the University of Sonora, Elizalde found the pull of music too alluring and began performing professionally at a young age. Performing soon opened doors to the recording world, and "El Gallo de Oro" was able to record his debut solo album, Regresan los Mafiosos, in 1999. Releasing a record per year for the next several years, Elizalde slowly worked to establish himself as an important figure in the norteño genre. A high point in his career was reached in 2006, when he was featured on the soundtrack for the Mexican film Al Otro Lado with the song "Sobre la Tumba de Mi Padre."

Valentin Elizalde was killed at the age of 27 on November 25, 2006. Elizalde and two companions, Mario Mendoza and Raymundo Ballesteros, were gunned down in an ambush in the city of Reynosa, 20 minutes after performing at a local fair. It is rumored that Elizalde's murder was in response to his lyrical commentary about Los Zetas, a mercenary force employed in the Mexican drug trade. The death of Valentin "El Gallo de Oro" Elizalde was viewed as a tragic loss by his fans. Many posthumous releases and dedications have been released to honor his memory. ~ Evan C. Valentín Elizalde (February 1, 1979–November 25, 2006) was a popular Mexican banda music singer gunned down in an ambush. Known by the nickname "El Gallo de Oro" (The Golden Rooster), his biggest Banda hits included "Vete Ya," "Ebrio de Amor", " Vete Con El", "Vuelve Cariñito", "Como Me Duele", "Vencedor", " Mi Virgencita", and "Soy Así." [1] Some of his songs were narcocorridos, and it appears he was murdered by drug trafficking gangs.[2]

Elizalde was born in the city of Navojoa, Sonora. He then moved to Guadalajara, Jalisco and later to Guasave, Sinaloa where he, his father, Lalo Elizalde, nicknamed "El Gallo" (The Rooster), and brothers resided for a few years. His father, also a singer, died in a car accident on the so called "Curva de la muerte" (Curve of Death) in the city of Villa Juárez, Sonora. He had four children with his wife Camila Valencia: Jesus, Valentin, Francisco and Lidia. On December 6, 2007 Elizalde, was nominated posthumously for the Grammy Awards.

Death

His death is said to be related to Los Zetas, a mercenary force employed by the Gulf Cartel. [3]

Elizalde, his manager (and best friend) Mario Mendoza Grajeda, and driver Reynaldo Ballesteros were all gunned down in an ambush after a concert in the border city of Reynosa, across the border from McAllen, Texas in an apparent gangland style hit on Saturday, November 25. Tano, his cousin, was also shot several times in the arm.

The 27-year-old Valentin Elizalde was killed about 20 minutes after performing.

According to media reports, two vehicles chased Elizalde's black 2007 Chevrolet Suburban as he left the concert and opened fire with automatic weapons as dozens of witnesses looked on. As many as 70 bullet casings were found scattered on the street around Elizalde's car. According to media reports, Elizalde was hit a total of 28 times.

After his death, controversy ensued as his autopsy was videotaped and posted on video streaming sites. Two men were subsequently jailed for violation of human rights against Elizalde.

Career

His career of nine years was short and yet quite successful.
