Valley of the Dolls

Review

Dory and André Previn's score for the kitsch classic Valley of the Dolls is a deliciously campy collection of swinging jazz and pop underpinned with humor and tongue-in-cheek sensuality. Like the film it supports, the music has dated -- it bears all the hallmarks of "hip" '60s pop culture, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Beneath those superficial trappings and dated production, there's an infectious spirit to Previn's score, and that's what has kept the album a cult classic matching both the book and the film for all these years. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
