Valois

Branch of the Capetian family which reigned in France from 1328 until 1589. The direct line died out with Charles VIII, leaving the throne to Louis XII (Valois-Orléans) and then to the Valois-Angoulême (François Ier, Henri II, François II, Charles IX, Henri III). The assassination of the last of these led to the accession of the Bourbon dynasty.
