Valtimo (literally "artery") is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 2,511 (30 June 2009)[2] and covers an area of 838.21 square kilometres (323.63 sq mi) of which 37.76 km2 (14.58 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 3.14 inhabitants per square kilometre (8.1 /sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
