Varthamanam is a Malayalam daily published from Calicut, Cochin, and Doha by Media View Limited. Well known Malayalam critic and orator Sukumar Azhikode was the founding chief editor of the newspaper. Jafar Atholi is the editor in charge of Varthamanam now. Razak Payambrote is the co-ordinating editor of this daily. The start-up was very humble and simple. Varthamanam as a newspaper uplifting humanity and morality of Muslim reformation movement of Kerala. It can say the daily has been keeping its high values in reporting and editorial. Even the media faced financial crisis in some months its management and editorial made no compromises in keeping its values.
History
It is an association of enlightened group who took up novel idea to start a new journalistic tradition without usual masalas. The daily was one of the products of a limited company registered under the Indian companies Act 1956 by name Media view Ltd. Though it is in its infancy its expose on godmen in Kerala has created a wave in the country. From February 2009 it is under Media 19 company. General body meeting of media view limited company is resolved on February 17 at Calicut in its share holders meeting to sell/mortgage the company for the good. The Managing Director of media view ltd NV Abdurahman said all news about the management are false. But the reliable sources say the sale is true. Dr Shihad from Kannore of media 19 is the managing director. After many diplomacy in May 2009 Varthamanam management cancelled the business due to high protest from its share holders and mujahid activist. From May the daily is under Media Wiew limited.
New Challenges
The advent of Varthamanam in fact sent ripples in the Malayalam Corporate News Industry circle in Kerala. To get through the onslaught, Corporate News Industry resorted to making the readers play games for months together, so the temptation of the new entrant not pose a threat to it. It was a fact that Varthamanam did not keep up its expectations due to its internal bickering.
Varthamanam Malayalam Daily facing high financial crisis on this time. It has reduced its pages from 12 to 8. And deleted all special pages. Its proud feature pages disappeared. Its calicut office become mute. The parliament election reviews can't attract people enough. It is important that on 2004 election Varthamanam lead the election analysis. Mainstream media cant follow the accuracy and clarity of Varthamanam on that time.
But with out fear
Even Varthamanam face financial crisis it does not make any adjustment in news. The daily existing with 10 pages now. And the Sunday magazine is publishing. Its Qatar edition is keep high quality and it is the first and best malayalam daily in Qatar.
