Velocifero is the fourth studio album from Ladytron and their first to be released by their new label, Nettwerk. The album was available for digital download on iTunes as of 19 May 2008. It was released on CD and other download websites on 2 June in the UK and 3 June elsewhere. The music video for "Ghosts" was officially released on YouTube on 17 May 2008. In March 2009 "Tomorrow" was released as a CD single in the UK.

In the Nettwerk band biography, Reuben states that "velocifero" literally means "bringer of speed" and is also the name of a classic retro styled scooter. "Black Cat" and "Kletva" are both sung entirely in Bulgarian. "Kletva" (which means "an oath") is a cover of a song from a solo album by Kiril Marichkov of Bulgarian rock band Shturtzite.

The song "Runaway" is featured on FIFA 09.
