Biography

An avant-garde, atmospheric, black metal duo composed of vocalist/guitarist/drummer Josh (aka SGL) and guitarist Angela (aka LVG), Portland, OR's Velvet Cacoon have had a rich and controversial history, unique inasmuch as most of it wasn't "history" at all, but entirely fabricated hogwash. Ever since first being conceived by Josh in 1996, Velvet Cacoon's collection of half-truths and outright lies have included suicidal drummers, cough medicine addictions, vague claims of asexuality, faked demos with which to pad out their discography, and even stolen music, when they copied and passed songs by folk/blues band Korouva as their own. Needless to say, these many fabrications have led to much confusion and irritation over the years, while compromising the potential of Velvet Cacoon's real releases (we think), like 2002's Dextronaut, 2004's Genevieve, 2005's rarities compilation, Northsuite (later reissued through Southern Lord, in 2008). A new Velvet Cacoon album, Atropine, is rumored to be ready for release in 2009, but it's safe to say that fans and haters alike will believe that when they see it. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
