Ventanarosa
Ventanarosa is a production company formally founded by Salma Hayek in 1999. Its Spanish language translation literally means "rose-colored window."
Ventanarosa's first feature film was the Arturo Ripstein-helmed El Coronel No Tiene Quien le Escriba based on the Gabriel García Márquez novel of the same name. The film was Mexico's official selection for submission to the Best Foreign Film category at the Academy Awards.
In 2001 the Ventanarosa-produced Showtime movie In the Time of the Butterflies, another adaptation of a Hispanic author's work, was broadcast. The next year, Frida, a film Hayek had been involved with since 1997, was released in theaters. The biographical film about the life of artist Frida Kahlo went on to win two Oscars. The success of Frida, coupled with the good reception of In the Time of the Butterflies, was followed by the 2003 Emmy-winning The Maldonado Miracle, also for Showtime.
Ventanrosa became involved with Reveille Productions' United States adaptation of the Colombian telenovela, Yo Soy Betty La Fea in 2004. The series — later titled Ugly Betty — was picked up by ABC, where it currently airs.
