The private-equity firm focuses on midsized media, communications, education, information, and business services companies, often augmenting its holdings with add-on acquisitions. The VSS portfolio includes stakes in trade magazine publishers Access Intelligence and Ascend Media, business information provider Ipreo, and research and consulting firm Market Strategies. John Veronis, founder of "Psychology Today", and John Suhler, former head of CBS Publishing, founded Veronis Suhler in 1981.
