vertical third page

Marketing Dictionary: vertical third page

Print advertising space equal to one-third of a page that is divided vertically (from top to bottom) into three parts. Vertical third-page advertisements placed on the outer edge of the page are easily spotted when a reader flips through a publication, but requests for this position are inconsistently honored. Positioning along the gutter or middle of the page can be especially awkward if a coupon is included in the advertisement, because it is difficult for the reader to remove. Vertical half-page space is also sold to advertisers.
