The recordings Big Maceo made in the two years covered by this set are some of the last he made for Bluebird before a stroke incapacitated him. In fact, the last four sides were recorded after his stroke, still able to vocalize sweetly, but with Eddie Boyd brought in to play piano on the date. As always, all of these sides feature the immaculate guitar work of Tampa Red and tracks like "Kid Man Blues," "Maceo's 32-20," and "Chicago Breakdown" show the two off to good effect.
