videodisc kiosk

Marketing Dictionary: videodisc kiosk

Viewing station providing public access to a videodisc recording and operated by the viewer. Videodisc kiosks advertise goods available for sale from one or several sellers and may include a keyboard or telephone for ordering the goods via credit card. Videodisc kiosks are placed in a variety of locations including the public areas in shopping malls and other retail areas, inside stores, and in other locations likely to draw consumers of the products advertised. For example, a major shoe manufacturer displays its entire product line via videodisc kiosks set up inside its retail stores. If a particular shoe is not in stock, customers can order it, using the kiosk, for delivery to their home. See also electronic catalog; teletext; videotex.
