vin de table

[van deu TAH-bl] French for "table wine, " also referred to as vin ordinaire ("ordinary wine"). This is France's lowest category of wine and includes all the wines that don't fit into the higher categories of appellation d'origine contrôlée (aoc), vin délimité de qualite supérieure (VDQS) and vin de pays. The labels on vin de table wines don't mention regional or local origin and bear only the country's name. They're often sold with a proprietary brand name with the simple indication that they're either vin rouge, vin blanc or vin rosé. Vin de table replaces the term vin de consommation courante.
