Vinegar Joe[1] was a British R&B band in the early 1970s, who were best known for their live shows. The core members were lead singers Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer, bassist Steve York,[2] keyboard player Tim Hinkley and guitarist Pete Gage who also played piano.[3] Conrad Isidore played drums on their first album Vinegar Joe.[4] Their debut LP was released in April 1972.[3]
They released three albums in total on Island Records in the UK (released on Atco Records in the U.S.) before the band dissolved at the end of 1973. Brooks and Palmer went on to have solo success.
