Biography

Fans of the Virgineers continue to clamor for more info about the secretive pair, and many find it hard to believe they haven't yet broken through the misty ether that surrounds them and confounds those who would want to know more. Though Ken Zawacki (vocals, guitars, keyboards, percussion) and Bruce Lash (vocals, bass, guitars, keyboards, percussion) claim on their website that the Virgineers "formed when the lads met at an art school for wayward girls in their hometown of Sydville, an Antarctic seaport built on the baby octopus trade," they are actually a dynamic duo originally hailing from Chicago. In addition to having been from the snowy South Pole, they also claim to have come to the U.S. back in 1967 (!) to begin recording their self-titled debut, but the studio sheen and polish reveals that they are indeed a band from the late '90s. The Virgineers saw its first release via the Texas-based Liquid Soul label (a division of Brainticket) in 1999. ~ Bryan Thomas, All Music Guide
