vitamin B complex

Food and Fitness: vitamin B complex

A group of vitamins including thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin, pyrodoxine (vitamin B6), pantothenic acid, folic acid, cobalamin (vitamin B12), and biotin. These vitamins play an essential role in the release of energy from food, making them of great interest to exercisers. Prolonged aerobic exercise depends on a sustained production of energy, so deficiencies impair endurance performance. However, there is no evidence for beneficial effects of supplements over and above the amounts required to prevent deficiency.
