Vom Geist der ebräischen Poesie, a two-volume treatise published by J. G. Herder in 1782-3. It is described in a sub-title as Eine Anleitung für die Liebhaber derselben und der ältesten Geschichte des menschlichen Geistes. The work, which remains incomplete, is a commentary on the Bible seen as literature. The first part is in the form of a dialogue between two friends, Alciphron and Euryphron; the second abandons dialogue for straightforward exposition. There are many poetic illustrations, scriptural and non-scriptural.
