French family of engravers. Nicolas-Joseph Voyez (b Abbeville, 1742; d Paris, 1806) studied in Abbeville with Jacques-Firmin Beauvarlet, one of the engravers who were helping, through reproductive engravings, to popularize Netherlandish Baroque paintings in France. Both Nicolas-Joseph and his brother Fran?ois Voyez (b Abbeville, 1746; d Paris, 1805) engraved portraits and genre scenes after such contemporary French painters as Jean-Baptiste Greuze, Fran?ois Boucher and Charles Eisen. Problems of attribution arise with prints signed Voyez Sculp., since they could be by either brother, or the result of a collaboration between them.
