.vu is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Vanuatu.
While .vu domains were initially given away for free to any person requesting one, they are now being sold commercially as is common practice for other top-level domains.
Several organizations, most notably the German language "registrar" de|nic|vu (a division of Sektion.net, itself a division of Interdots International) are still giving away subdomains for free and promising to keep the service ad-free and free of charge.
