A Korean monk who studied consciousness-only (vijñapti-mātra) philosophy in China under the famous scholar-translator Hsüan-tsang (596-664). Wŏnch'uk's commentary on the Sandhinirmocana Sūtra, a foundational consciousness-only scripture, was recognized as authoritative not only in Korea, but also in China and Tibet, where it became known as the ‘great Korean commentary’.
