Wajir is a town in North Eastern Province, Kenya. It is headquarters of Wajir District. The town is located at around 1°44′50″N 40°4′8″E / 1.74722°N 40.06889°E. It has a population of 32,207 [1999 census]. [1].
Wajir is located in an arid area prone to drought. In spring 2006 there was a severe famine. Four new districts were created in August 2007. They are Wajir East, Wajir South, Wajir North and Wajir West. All have new headquarters and new district commissioners.
