Wally (Catalani: La Wally). Soprano. Daughter of Stromminger. In love with Hagenbach, but her father wants her to marry Gellner. When Hagenbach rejects her, she orders his death, later regretting her decision and saving him. Declaring their love for each other, they are caught in an avalanche and killed. (Although he did not conduct the première of the opera, Toscanini named his daughter after this character.) Created (1892) by Hariclea Darclée.
