Walter Berry

(b Vienna, 8 April 1929). Austrian bass-baritone. He studied at the Vienna Academy and joined the Staatsoper in 1950; soon after, he appeared at the Salzburg Festival, singing in several first performances and as Mozart's Count, Leporello, Guglielmo and Papageno. At Covent Garden, the Met and elsewhere he has been admired as Barak.
