Walter Thomas

  • Genres: Jazz
  • Instrument: Sax (Tenor)
  • Representative Albums: "Well Done," "23rd Street"

Biography

Walter Thomas has created several recordings of original music combining both modern jazz and rhythm and blues elements. One of his main collaborators is saxophonist and composer David Tasse. The two share credits backing rhythm and blues performers such as Bette Wright and Wilson Pickett respectively. Tasse and Thomas are also proponents of the D.I.Y. philosophy, releasing their own material on Tasse's label Bay Breeze as well as Thomas self-named imprint. Thomas' music tends toward short, snappy compositions, sometimes titled the same way as in the arousing "Wake Up" or the forgiving Second Chance". He should not be confused with Walter "Foots" Thomas, legendary reed player from the swing era who worked with Cab Calloway for more than a decade. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
