Walther und Hildegund

Walther und Hildegund, title given to two fragments of a Middle High German heroic epic written in Austria in the early 13th c. Its basis is an ancient Germanic legend (see Waltharius). The one fragment (at Graz) shows Walther and Hildegund at Etzel's court, the other, preserved in Vienna, narrates their homecoming and marriage festival at Lengres (Langres) in France. The two fragments amount in all to 39 four-line stanzas.
