New ticket gates and accessibility
Walton-on-Thames railway station was one of the stations selected by South West Trains to have new automatic ticket gates installed at all of the exits to the station.[1] The automatic ticket gates on both platforms were installed and in operation on 25 June 2009. There were also smartcard validators installed, intended (in the future) for use when the barriers are unattended and open.
Ramps were installed on 31 October 2009, making both platforms accessible from street level. Access from the Ashley Park / ticket office side of the station to the Burwood Park side however still requires use of a subway with steps or a considerable detour by road.
Service
From Monday to Saturday Walton-on-Thames receives two trains per hour to Basingstoke and two trains per hour to Woking. There are four trains per hour to London Waterloo, two of these come from Basingstoke and two from Woking. On Sundays there are two trains per hour to Guildford and London Waterloo.[2]
