Biography

Wastelander hail from the decadent industrial, umm...wasteland of Lansing, MI, which the band's two protagonists -- vocalist, guitarist, and bassist Matt War (ex-Harbinger) and guitarist and backing vocalist Sean "Xaphan" Peters (Summon, Lucifer's Hammer, Dark Psychosis, etc.) -- would have you believe is the seventh circle of hell (or thereabouts). Certainly, that's the attitude and sonic aesthetic imparted by the group's 2008 debut, Wardrive (featuring session drummer Ian "Pit Viper" Sugierski, of Superchrist), which pours its primitive brew of black metal from the same old keg of bitter as Venom's pioneering efforts from 1981 or 1982, and packages it behind cover art featuring a childlike sketch of a so-funny-it's-scary-but-still-funny war tank. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
