Review

Seamus Egan was only 20 years old when he recorded A Week In January, but at that young age, it was crystal clear that he had already mastered traditional Irish folk. Egan, an Irish-American from Philadelphia who spent seven years in Ireland, demonstrates his mastery of the flute and the banjo on this entirely instrumental CD. In contrast to contemporary musicians who fuse Irish folk with elements of American pop and often use electric instruments in the process, Egan's approach is traditional and consistently acoustic. From the brisk tempo of "The Congress Set" and "Fermoy Lasses" to the soft reflections of the title song, this fine release makes it clear that Egan's love of Irish culture runs deep. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
