Wer wird Millionär? (English translation: Who will become a millionaire?) is a German game show based on the original British format of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. The show is hosted by Günther Jauch. The main goal of the game is to win €1 million (earlier 1 million DM) by answering 15 multiple-choice questions correctly. There are normally three lifelines - Fifty Fifty (fünfzig-fünfzig), Phone A Friend (Telefon) and Ask The Audience (Publikumsjoker), but if the contestant wants, a new lifeline called Zusatzjoker or Risikomodus (Additional joker or Risk mode) is added - if the contestant chooses to play the version with this lifeline, he can ask someone in the audience who believes that he/she knows the correct answer for a question, however if the contestant wants to play this variant, the second guaranteed sum (€16,000) isn't a guaranteed sum. Wer wird Millionär? is broadcast from 3 September 1999 to today. It is shown on the German TV station RTL on Mondays and Fridays at 20:15 (UTC+1). When a contestant gets the fifth question correct, he will leave with at least €500 (earlier 1,000 DM). When a contestant gets the tenth question correct, he will leave with at least €16,000(earlier 32,000 DM).
