What Happened to Jones

Plot

When Fred Mace left Mack Sennett and Keystone to direct and star in his own pictures, his popularity went downhill. This overlong adaptation of the George Broadhurst farce may help explain why his solo career languished. Jones (Mace) is a traveling salesman -- or drummer, as they were known in those days -- who peddles Bibles and playing cards at a discount. Along with Professor Goodly, he goes to a prize fight which is raided by the police. The two men wind up at a boarding school for young ladies where Jones is mistaken for the Bishop of Timbuctoo. Meanwhile the real bishop also shows up. Jones, as the Bishop, is supposed to officiate at a wedding, but instead he finds a wife of his own amongst the boarding school lovelies. Later in 1915, after bombing in his own efforts, Mace humbly returned to Sennett's studio.
