What is the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act?

The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act was passed by Congress in 1994. The law bars the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from regulating dietary supplements. It allows manufacturers to make claims about the benefits of an herbal medicine. Further, it requires the FDA to prove an herbal is harmful before the sale of the herbal can be restricted.
