Lady Bird Johnson was the First Lady of the US. The First Lady
is the title given to the President's wife. President Johnson was
her husband. She was one of the most active First Ladies. Her most
visible activity as First Lady was her beautification projects,
which included making Washington more beautiful by having flowers
planted and her work to beautify the highways. At one time, the
highways were cluttered with signs, which make the highways ugly,
hard to navigate, and dangerous. The Congressional Highway
Beautification Act was nicknamed the "Lady Bird Bill" because of
the work she did and her actions to promote the bill and push
Congress for it's passage.
