Plot

This charming British variety series was set in a fictional Lancashire "working man's club," where average folks congregated for conviviality and entertainment. The club was a studio set, the club's "compere" and "concert chairman" (Bernard Manning and Colin Crampton, respectively) were professional actors, and the acts were comprised of recognized TV and radio favorites. On the other hand, the audience was made up of genuine publicans from the Lancashire area, who responded with unrehearsed enthusiasm as the comedians and musicians strutted their stuff. In addition to the series' regular weekly version, there was also a "Seaside Summer Edition," often location-filmed at various resort communities. Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club was originally broadcast from 1974 to 1976. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
